“The house was built at the edge of Pécs’s suburban area. Its simple shape was the result of its environment, the sun’s exposure, the vegetation and the view of the downtown. In the neighborhood most of the houses were built on the northern border of the properties, so I continued this tendency leading to a sun orientated house. The shape stayed as a simple rectangular prism in order to avoid the unnecessary heat losses, due to the locations slopes the house was partially placed under ground. We did not want to build a passive house, our aim was to create a living place that takes advantage of the locations features. The outside becomes a crucial part of the house with the help of open- covered spaces. With the help of rationally sized windows and doors the overheating during summer and the heat loss during winter can be kept between acceptable limits. We reacted to the climate with architectural tools that connect the building to the local environment.”
